On September 27, 1890 Frank Slavin of Australia and Joe McAuliffe of the United States fought an important heavyweight fight at the Ormonde Club in London. Slavin made short work of it stopping McAuliffe in the second round. Richard Fox of the Police Gazette named Slavin champion and presented him the Police Gazette belt, although most followers of the sport continued to recognize John L. Sullivan as the true champion. Offered here is an extremely rare advertising silk of Frank Slavin for this match. Both fighters are named in the center and the borders are adorned with Slavin's colors. This silk is in exceptional condition. The color is bold with no run. No tears. Some slight spotting and slight foxing on left side. Has the orignal folds. 34" x 36."
