It has been a long standing tradition in the game for the President of the United States to throw out the first ball on opening day, even more special when the event takes place during the World Series. This rare Spalding ONL (Frick) baseball has been signed in blue and black fountain pen by 21 players and former President Herbert Hoover from the 1951 Yankees/Giants World Series at the Polo Grounds. Signatures include Herbert Hoover, HOFers Casey Stengel, Johnny Mize, Phil Rizzuto, Monte Irvin, Bill Dickey and Yogi Berra, Allie Reynolds, Dom DiMaggio (sweet spot), Jerry Coleman, Ed Lopat, Bobby Thomson, Bobby Brown, Gene Woodling, Gil McDougald and others, including announcer Russ Hodges who had called Bobby Thomson's "Shot Heard Round The World" a few days earlier. EX ball shows some toning, signatures average a grade of 8 with Hoover's grading a 6. Accompanied by a LOA.
