Staying in playoff contention throughout the entire season, Anaheim finished as the runner-up to San Jose for the last Western Conference playoff berth. They tied the Florida Panthers for wins (33) as the most ever by an expansion team. Their 71-point total was the fourth best ever by a first-year NHL club.
