A Historical Account of the Campaign in the Netherlands, in 1815,
Under His Grace the Duke of Wellington, and Marshall Prince Blucher,
Comprising the Battles of Ligny, Quatre Bras and Waterloo, with a detailed
narrative of the political events.... down to the surrender of Paris and
the Departure of Bonaparte for St. Helena.... Published by Henry Colburn,
London, in 1817, this extraordinary 11 1/2" x13" volume has 368 pages of
text followed by 25 full-color engravings by master illustrator James
Rouse. Spectacular full-color engravings by the celebrated artist George
Cruickshank appear on the title page, frontispiece and elsewhere, and two
large fold-out maps and a 21" x 12 1/2" foldout full-color engraving of the
battle in full pitch are included. The binding is complete, but a number of
later pages are separated, and fairly mild foxing is present throughout.
One map has a long tear, and is in need of proper restoration. The
condition of text and engravings is EX. This book is much sought after and,
because so many volumes have been broken for their superb engravings,
copies in reasonable condition are very rarely seen, and always noteworthy.
