The Reds, throughout the 1930s, became a team of "firsts". Crosley Field (formerly Redland Field), became the host of the first night game in 1935. Johnny Vander Meer became the only pitcher in major league history to throw back-to-back no-hitters in 1938. And for the first time since the notorious "Black Sox" series Cincinnati had returned to the World Series after taking home the NL Pennant. Offered is an extremely rare banner believed to have hung at Crosley Field during the 1939 World Series against the New York Yankees. The heavy satin banner (17-1/4 x 26-1/2") has gold tassels at bottom and "National League Champions 1939" and the Reds logo applied in red felt. A phenomenal piece that exists in beautiful display condition despite some minor spots of foxing. EX. Matted and framed (21-1/4 x 30-1/2").
