This is a terrific jersey from the home run provocateur and previous single-season king, Mark McGwire, who wore this white gem for his power-inducing team, the St. Louis Cardinals, during his last season in the big leagues, 2001. This slugger redefined the home run in 1998 (along with Chicago’s Sammy Sosa) with a race and chase for Roger Maris’ single-season record at 61. The stocky ball slayer shattered it by 9, with a new record and heavy number of 70. This 1987 Rookie of the Year fulfilled his promise in those heady days of the late 1990’s, and this 2001 jersey represents not only the end of Big Mac’s reign, but the reign itself, on the team that housed and nurtured its maturation. Made by Rawlings, a large manufacturer's tag sits on the inside tail, with size 52" flag tag attached to bottom center. Smaller flag tag which reads "Set 1 2001" attached to the bottom right. Jersey has custom hemmed tail, and beautiful Cardinal logo on whole of chest.
