Though Jackie Robinson is first and foremost an athlete, and the horizon we see him in is focused primarily on baseball, the political sphere of his color barrier-breaking 1947 entrance into Major League Baseball is given broad social and cultural coverage, but what of the man Jackie Robinson - his personal politics. This unofficial baseball offers a glimpse into the versatile second baseman’s politics, with not his signature on the sweet spot - though, yes, it is there, but on a panel, cleanly offering “Best Wishes Jackie Robinson', in a blue ball-point 8 out of 10 - but rather, and more importantly to him at the time, a “Vote for Nixon” printed there; dates this ball circa 1960, when Robinson chose Nixon over Kennedy, only to regret that endorsement during the ’68 presidential election. Excellent condition overall.
