A standout year in a stellar career for controversial pitcher Roger Clemens, as early in the 1986 season the Red Sox pitcher, in a 3-1 handling of the Seattle ­Mariners, struck out 20 batters, breaking the major-league record of 19, co-owned by the three legends Nolan Ryan, Tom Seaver, and Steve Carlton. In that same game, Clemens also tied Ryan’s (and Ron Davis’) American League record of eight consecutive strikeouts. This official American League (Brown) baseball was used in this historic game, and saved by umpire Dave Phillips who obtained several balls from this game.
