Not exactly the end, but 1989 was the last of Don Mattingly’s best years (and his last as an All-Star), as 1990 would find the star New York Yankee 1st baseman in deep pain from a 1987 back injury, and on the disabled list in July, so this 1989 game-worn away jersey is symbolic of that stellar 1980’s decade that had Mattingly juggling records, awards and batting feats like an assured future Hall of Famer, including 1987’s MLB record of six single-season grand slams, A.L. MVP ’85, five straight Gold Glove awards 85-89, A.L. batting champ ’84, and plenty of league-leading hitting bests. Ironically, Mattingly never made it to the World Series, and his draught coincided with his team’s dry years, as he is widely considered the best Yankee to never have played in that championship. Road gray jersey has "New York" on the front, and a "23" on the back. "89-1" in the collar. Wilson tag in front tail along with "42" and "BX" flag tags. Very nice use. This came right from the New York Yankees via Steiner Sports and has their hologram affixed. LOA included also.
