Teddy Roosevelt took his last great trip of exploration and adventure in 1914, visiting a remote and largely unmapped portion of the Brazilian rainforest. Candice Millard’s book on the subject, entitled “The River of Doubt”, was published in 2005 to general acclaim. From the first, the expedition courted disaster, and lives were lost; Roosevelt was, in fact, fortunate to return alive. This outstanding collection of 31 period photographs, some attributed to Roosevelt’s son Kermit, provide an extraordinary “eye witness” account of the trip. The majority of photos are 8” x 5 1/2”, and are in overall EX condition. Some are fully captioned, but about half are missing all or part of their captions, due to deterioration of paper on which the captions were printed.
