"The pitcher has to find out if the hitter is timid, and if he is timid, he has to remind the hitter he's timid."-Don Drysdale. In 1956, the man his teammates called "Big D", made his MLB debut with the Dodgers and quickly earned a reputation as a fierce competitor who wasn't afraid to hit a batter who crowded the plate. For thirteen years the game's premiere power pitcher dominated with blazing speed and pin point placement that always kept his opponents on the defensive and from 1957-1966, Drysdale and his equally charismatic teammate, Sandy Koufax, were simply unstoppable.
