The most skilled first baseman of his era, Charlie won nine fielding titles over the course of his twenty year career. Usually positioned far from the bag and wearing an undersized glove, he paired with Rabbit Maranville to form one of the most effective, and by far the most entertaining, infield combos of all time. Offered is one of those aforementioned Goldsmith first baseman's mitts, this one dating from his days as a Cub early in the1930's. Its soft, supple leather owns a rich chocolate brown coloring and all of the original buckles, straps, and stitching are securely set in place. The inside of the glove shows significant cracking and separation in the palm of the liner. Grimm has inscribed the outer portion of the mitt, "To Barny, Charlie Grimm" in black marker. Included, also, is this very scarcely seen brown H&B 125 bat. Presented exclusively to members of the 1935 National League Champion Chicago Cubs, of which Charlie was Manager. Stamped with Lefty Grimm's facsimile signature on the barrel along with "Chicago Cubs National League Champions 1935". It exists in EX condition with a very small mounting hole on knob.
