The den of any serious Napoleon collector would be the natural resting place for this pair of turn of the Century spelter sculptures in large format. The first titled "Veille de Wagram" (Vigil at Wagram) displays a slumbering Napoleon crossarmed in front of an open hearth. When lit, it emits light from under the cauldron and over the mantle. One is left to imagine whether this scene is before or after the Battle of Wagram in which he defeated the Austrians. The brass title tag credits Salesio as the sculptor. The piece is EX, complete and measures 15WX14HX8H". Secondly, titled "Napoleon au Bivouac", Bonaparte sits on a large rock with a field map under his right hand while pondering his next opponent. The remnants of a destroyed cannon lay to his left. When lit, the embers of a camp fire flicker below. The piece is missing the wooden base but is otherwise complete and stunning. Signed by the sculptor Lemoyne, it measures 17Wx14WX12H".
