Before football great Otto Graham took up quarterback duties professionally for the Cleveland Browns, he was positioned as tailback for Northwestern University. Although he entered Northwestern on a basketball scholarship, he played 3 years on the football team, coming in third in the Heisman Trophy voting in 1943. That stellar collegiate season is captured here in this signed, leather bound volume of all the programs that contain Graham in them. On the cover, Graham’s name sits elegantly down in the lower right corner - gold on black. Open this cover and find his vintage signature on the inside of the cover, rating a 9/10, in black ink. Binding is embossed with “Northwestern University Football Programs 1943”, and holds six of them (EX-MT): the Wildcats competing against Indiana University, the University of Michigan, the Great Lakes Naval Academy, the University of Minnesota, the University of Notre Dame, and the University of Illinois. Of special note is the heavy WWII-Era influence on the pages inside, carrying with them a treasured patriotism which defined that decade.
