When Muhammad Ali refused to enter the army he was stripped of his heavyweight title. The World Boxing Association chose eight men to compete in an elimination tournament to determine Ali's successor. Jerry Quarry was one of the eight chosen. In his first tourney bout he was pitted against Patterson. Jerry got the verdict. In his next match, Quarry squared off against tournament favorite, Thad Spencer. Spencer defeated ex-W.B.A. Champ Ernie Terrell, and was now the favorite to win the tournament. Jerry proved the experts wrong, stopping Spencer in round twelve. In his next bout, he lost to Ali's ex-sparring partner Jimmy Ellis. Fight poster (11 x 14") is promoting the Quarry -Spencer meeting at the Oakland Coliseum Arena on February 3rd, 1968. Poster is in EX-MT condition and features outstanding portrait photos. Also included is a 1966 signed boxing managerial contract agreement between Jerry Quarry and his manager Johnnie Flores. Jerry Quarry, Johnnie Flores and Jack Quarry sign it in bold blue ink. Edwin B. Dooley of the New York State Athletic Commission has approved the contract. Also attached is a one-page manager's assignee contract (9/10).
