The name of Hall of Fame pitcher Eddie Plank will forever be honored in Philadelphia, where he was an eight-time 20+ game winner for the Athletics. Plank, a finesse pitcher with a fabulous curve, won 326 games in his 17-year career (1901-1917), recording 2246 strikeouts and a lifetime 2.35 ERA. In four World Series, Plank went 2-5, but racked up an amazing 1.32 ERA. This spectacular 4” x 7 ?” photo captures a sense of the intensity that opposing batters faced. June 4, 1940 is stamped on the reverse, surely an accession date, since Plank passed away in 1926.
