Canes used to be a fashionable piece that were a part of a person’s look. Like formal hats they have for the most part disappeared. We are now left with functional nondescript canes that merely help us maintain our balance. This very unique cane dates back to 1863 and the Civil War and was used by a member of the 27th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry. It is not merely functional. It is a work of art. A tree limb that has been decorated with a beautiful almost leopard like design. It is inscribed: “27 Conn. Voll. 1863 Gettysburg. Oct. 22. 1889. You’ll be the sharpest looking person in your neck of the woods with this beauty.
