One of the greatest jockeys of all time, HOFer Johnny Longden rode from 1927 to 1966, aboard 6,032 winners. Although he rode such magnificent horses as Swaps and Whirlaway, he always considered his Triple Crown winning ride on Count Fleet as the high point - and best horse - of his long career. From the 1950’s, we offer an awesome red, white & blue racing silk, in a stars & stripes motif, and a blue cap, both belonging to Johnny Londgen. “Needmore Stables” appears on the inside band of the hat. Needmore contributed an interesting footnote to the racing annals, when one of its young horses, the 2-year old “Brief Moment” achieved a place in history in 1947 by defeating the soon-to-be Triple Crown winner Citation, the only recorded defeat for this legendary horse. “Mr. & Mrs. Greigorian” is sewn inside the silks, and both items have sewn tags from Antoinette Herbert, a noted California seamstress. The silks are in overall EX condition, with expected minor wear from use. Johnny Longden passed away in 2003, on his 96th birthday.
