Neiman’s commemoration of the 1976 Olympics in Montreal is an eye-filling montage of colorful splotches creating the kinetic images of athletes, flags, stadiums and race courses. At the center are the flags of the U.S., Russia, and Great Britain, beside a blue Greek flag with the year and the 5-ring Olympic flag. Fantastic action renderings of a pole vaulter seems to vault right off the print. Yet for all the commotion, Neiman still leaves room for the painting to breathe, striking a dreamscape of competition without the confining borders of nationalism and geopolitics. If only it were so. Neiman’s signature is in charcoal at the lower right. This is a limited edition of 600 numbered impressions. Print is 33-1/2 x 49” and matted on stock paper within a larger white matted surface in a 43 x 58” frame with a stately, detailed gold-brown border.
