Va Va Voom. It was during WWII that the Pin-up girl phenomenon was at its peak and no one man did more for the genre than Gil Elvgren. His drawn ladies are very often caught in humorous situations and the titles of his works always skirted the raciness line of his era. He painted luxurious oils of gorgeous girls-next door. Elvgren always chose young girls who were new to the modeling business and felt that the ideal pin-up was a fifteen-year-old face on a twenty-year-old body, so that’s what he tried to portray in his work.
