Remember your high school senior year? If you were a member of the 1953 graduating class at Humes High School in Memphis, Tennessee, you would have probably received your copy of your yearbook, The Senior Herald. You would have gone around and asked as many people as you could to sign and maybe, say something special. That’s what senior Terry Johnson did. In a yearbook with an unusally large number of signatures, one stands out...on page 20, just below Ruleman, Shirley and just above Robert Earl Perry, is the name Presley, Elvis Aron. The typcial high school yearbook photo shows a non-smiling, closed lip Presley pose. Under his name, the handwritten message, “ Best of luck Davey good friend Elvis.” The yearbook lists Elvis’ major as Shop, History and English. His club activities include R.O.T.C., along with four clubs: Biology, English, History and Speech. The 112-page yearbook has raised lettering on the leather-like red and grey cover. The NRMT yearbook has an aging but exciting look. As you explore this Elvis’ autographed Humes High School yearbook, you may want to think about the closing thought written in the Class Prophecy article concerning the future lives of the class of ‘53: The controls are reset and off we go into the wild blue yonder...we must venture on to further fields of interest.” Fitting words for fans of Presley memoribilia. Probably the most inscriptions and signatures you will find in one of this legend’s High School yearbook. LOA.
