Step back to a time when William Howard Taft succeeded Teddy Roosevelt as President of the United States, Robert Peary became the first man to reach the North Pole, and in this composite photo, Honus Wagner, AKA the Flying Dutchman, led the Pittsburgh Pirates to the top of the baseball world. The slick-fielding Wagner won the National League batting title in 1909 and his Bucs faced off against Ty Cobb’s Detroit Tigers in the World Series, which the Pirates won in seven games. The players are all pictured in oval photos with Wagner featured prominently in the center. The photo is in fair condition. Some sections have faded with time and the dark background behind the oval photos is smudged in sections and small areas of paper are missing around the edges although the player’s faces are clearly visible in all photos. The back surface of the photo has several glue or adhesive marks. The words “Pittsburg B.B. Club” and “World Champions” and the year 1909 are also on display. The ‘h’ in Pittsburg is not in the photo.
