According to his son David, comic illustrator Norman Saunders could transform a preliminary doodle into something that looked alive, and he could do it within a few minutes. Look, up in a sky...it’s Superman. Only this time, it’s “Superman in The Jungle.” It was a super successful series of 66 cards, all painted with black ink by Norman. The printed cards were sold by Topps (along with a piece of bubble gum, of course) for 5 cents a package. One card in the series is this one, number 43. It shows Superman just after he flew in to once again save his two good friends. We see him quickly untying the hands of a well-coiffed Lois Lane who is tied up next to Jimmy Olson. As always, there is no printed credit for the artist but this one-of-a kind NRMT original piece of art work will be a super way for collectors to catch the real Superman in the Jungle.
