Dr. J is even special among the greats. Kids always have and always will pretend that they are one of their sports heroes. It’s one of the greatest things about sports. If it’s baseball, you might pretend you’re in the batter’s box and assume the stance of Mantle, Mays, DiMaggio etc. Usually you do this in reverence of one of your home town idols. In basketball, it didn’t matter which team you were a fan of growing up if Julius Erving was a contemporary. Every kid pretended he was Dr. J putting on moves like no one before or since. You might have imitated him on a basketball court or in your house, pretending a pair of rolled up socks was the ball and your door was the hoop. Team affiliation was irrelevant. Every kid wanted to be Dr. J. Jersey is special just like the man who wore it in games in 1985. “Sixers” above his trademark number “6” on the front, and “Erving” above “6” on the reverse. Two tags on the lower left front: “Wilson 40” over “Pearson Sporting Goods.” The left shoulder has a black armband sewn on in memory of the legendary Philadelphia arena announcer David Zinkoff who died on Christmas Day, 1985. Jersey shows great game use, with pilling to lettering and numbers, fading to washing tags, and just a wonderful look and feel to it. Take it home, roll up a pair of socks and relive your best spin moves.
