The gold record is mounted under glass in a black wood presentation case with brass trim, and features a plaque inscribed “Presented to / Alan Freed / In Honor of Achieving a / Million Selling Single Record / Blueberry Hill”. It is an appropriate tribute to Freed who, as a DJ and concert promoter, was a propelling force in the earliest days of rock ‘n roll. Released in 1956 on the Imperial label, “Blueberry Hill” proved to be Fats’ biggest seller. That’s saying a lot, since among rock ‘n rollers in the 1950’s, only Elvis Presley sold more records than Fats. Legend has it that Fats forgot some of the lyrics during the recording session and the final version was pieced together from several takes. Whatever the case, “Blueberry Hill” continues to claim its place among the lasting hits of the ‘50’s. Condition of the well-protected contents is MT or NMNT, while the frame edges show some dents and minor scratches, as well as a visibly repaired crack on the bottom inside edge.
