It’s unclear when pool got its start but we do know that in 1600 pool was already familiar enough that Shakespeare mentioned it in Antony and Cleopatra. The game has certainly endured and grown. Because pool is a contest, there must be winners and losers. We offer something here for the winners. It’s an incredibly detailed first prize silver trophy presented to the Greenwood Team for winning the Uncle Clubs Pool Tournament. The double handled Victorian appearing prize has the names of the people on the winning team acid etched, as is all of the writing and pictures on the trophy. On the opposite side from the dedication is an incredibly intricate etching of two men engaged in a game of pool. The engraving is deep and of the highest quality, the workmanship outstanding. This is not surprising because it was designed and made by the famous Pairpoint Mfg. Co. of New Bedford, Mass. Those of you who play understand the allure of this game that looks so simple yet can be so very difficult. When you pick up the trophy and close your eyes you can almost picture Paul Newman saying to Jackie Gleason in The Hustler, “The pool game is over when Fats says it’s over.” Size is 13 x 8"
