When they talk about staying power in baseball, the image of William “Kid” Gleason may come to mind. His career took a lot of turns over forty five years. He won a mere thirty nine games for the Phillies in 1890. Played seven years as a pitcher and 13 years as a second baseman. Coached three championship teams for Connie Mack in 1929,30 & 31. And if that were not enough, the photos presented are from his era as a manager with the White Sox. During that period he managed to win enough games in 1919 to get his “Pale Hose” to the World Series. All that good work and some of his players have the audacity to take a dive for chump change. Well, “Kid” had no part of that as you can see in the awesome photo (7X9”) with Judge Landis. Is that a vote of confidence or what? Another depicts him holding the bag (literally!) right before the Series (9X7 dated Aug.29, 1919) Lastly, Manager Gleason in 1921. This groupng is a must for Black Sox lovers!!
