This was the moment all of white America had waited years to see -- black heavyweight champ Jack Johnson flat on his back being counted out, as the white fighter who put him down stands over his fallen figure. It happened on April 15, 1915 after Johnson -- who’d fled the U.S. to live in Europe after a trumped-up conviction for violating the Mann Act -- defended his crown against Jess Willard in Havana in a scheduled 45-rounder. In blistering 105-degree heat, Johnson was KO’d in round 26, with some claiming he took a dive.
