Perhaps the finest and most revealing photo ever of the “Rocket”, who made the unreachable and the unthinkable seem like child’s play. Taken by the Allard Studios in Montreal is 1945, the year Maurice Richard became the first to notch 50 goals in a season, doing it in 50 games, the photo displays his swagger and inner fire through his puckish grin, granite jaw and hard-staring, uncompromising eyes. Richard had a number of statistical feats including 544 goals (he was also the first to score 500 goals), 421 assists, 8 Stanley Cups, 8 first-team and 6 second-team All-Star berths. But it is his fire on ice that endures (not to mention his nastiness, such as the ref-attack in 1955 that led to his suspension and riots in Montreal). Vintage 4 x 6” photo has a hint of sepia toning and is VG-EX w/bending damage on the corners and a few snags and creases barely visible at any kind of distance. History is written all over this photo, which came from the Rocket’s estate and is accompanied by a LOA stating so.
