Known as “The Pride of Havana”, Adolpho Luque, the fiery little (5’7”) righty, was one of the first Caribbean imports into the Majors and was one of the finest National League pitchers of the 1920’s. Before he played for teams like the Reds in the US, he was a part of “Liga de Base Ball Profesional Cubana”. Here’s Adolpho’s original “Contrato Uniforme” in his native language and signed in blue ink by “The Pride of Havana” himself on October 5, 1927. The top of the contract is frayed, as is one corner on the yellowed bottom, but the contract is in good overall condition! All black-type details of the contract can be easily read, including the amount he was paid per season ($1,000 Mil Pesos).
