The ever contentious Cosell sent this typed letter to Pulitzer Prize-winning L.A. Times sports columnist Jim Murray correcting some things Murray had written about him recently. Dated May 20, 1991, four years before his death, Cosell wrote on personalized ABC Radio Networks stationery that “I was never kicked off of ‘Monday Night Football’. The contrary is true; the company begged me to stay,” and that “I never called Dave Winfield a sleaze.” Still he expresses fondness for the writer: “You have remained my friend and nobody knows better than you that it is not a dangerous thing to be.” Signed, “Sincerely, Howard,” with the name in black marker. Great content from one journalism giant to another. Letter is 8.5 x 11” and NRMT w/no folds and just a few tiny specks. Comes with copies of other correspondence and articles he sent to back up arguments that Murray had disputed. Includes ABC News mailing envelope. From the collection of Jim Murray.
