Startlingly different look at Walter Johnson, not on the field throwing his speedball but looking weak and helpless sitting in a wheelchair in a topcoat and hat in this AP photo from March 31, 1928. Johnson, beginning his post-pitching career as manager of the Newark International League team, was snapped after he'd taken a 'big train" to D.C. to enter a hospital after an influenza attack.
