The "War Between the States" was the most costly conflict in American history and the last major war fought on American soil. Here are three spectacular pieces that recall that historic time. First is a signed 4x2.5" photograph of Confederate General J.E. Johnston signed on the back by Johnston in black fountain ink. Johnston led the Confederate army's western campaign. His signature is clear and rates a "7" out of a possible 10. Next is an Honorable Discharge from the Confederate Army dated May 24, 1865. The discharge measures approximately 8.5x11" and reads, "Confederate States of America" across the top with official seal featuring "Jeff Davis, Our First President". EX. Finally, a letter hand written by Union General Judson Kilpatrick which dates from the 1870's. Kilpatrick fought for the Union at the Battle of Gettysburg and later led an unsuccessful raid on Richmond in an attempt to capture or kill Jefferson Davis. The six page political letter is written on Kilpatrick's own stationary in bold black fountain ink and was later presented by his widow in 1885 according to a notation on the back. The letter is EX+.
