One of the last known documents that Napoleon signed as Buonaparte. Rich in signigance, his signature on the 10 by 15-inch parchment (EX) approves an arms requests after it went through several officers. At middle right is Napoleon's sequence of 14 words -- translated "Sent back to citizen Mourion in order to give arms right away from general in charge" -- and his signature (9/10). He soon would change the Corsican spelling of Buonaparte to the French Bonaparte. There is no known document after 1796 with the Corsican spelling, making this a museum quality testament of his ascent to power.
