Absolutely stunning, hand-crafted and painted statuettes of the 20th Century's "Five Men of Destiny", the hard to find late-1930s set created by Saroff Studios of St. Louis boasting the incredibly dead-on visages of Franklin Roosevelt, Neville Chamberlain, Mahatma Ghandi, Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini, who were all thrust onto the world stage for different reasons, Roosevelt and Ghandi for good, Hitler and Mussolini for evil, and Chamberlain giving away half of Europe with a wan promise of "peace in our time." Each 12 1/2" statuette has a stuffed body over wire aperture and ceramic composition heads, hands and feet, and stands upon a 4 x 4" velvet covered base. Meticulous detail includes FDR's mother-of-pearl vest buttons, Chamberlain's wood/wire umbrella, Hitler's uniform armband, metal belt buckle, Maltese cross, Mussolini's stitched pockets, and Ghandi with 2 teeth. Statuettes EX-MT with paint retention near 100%. Set comes with orginal 9 1/2" display card (Fair). This comes from the Ted Hake Collection. May have been on display at something like a World's Fair.
