Noted photographer Charles M. Conlon casts Tris Speaker as a grandfather figure in this Roaring '20s portrait -- yet Speaker was in his early 30s at the time. Prematurely gray and armed with a potent bat and sense of humor, Speaker as player-manager led the Cleveland Indians to their first world title in 1920. Well-preserved NRMT 6x8" photo shows every wrinkle and scar, and Speaker's midsummer tan has not faded with the passing of generations. The back bears Conlon's Evening Telegram stamp and Conlon's handwritten identification of Speaker.
