Up close and personal shot of Walter Johnson in 1924 is among the best of photographer Paul Thompson's myriad evocative photos of baseball players of the era which were often picked up by numerous magazines and wire services. The 6 1/2 x 8" photo shows the soft side of The Big Train, his cap pushed back to allow light to illuminate his face and a self-effacing smile. On the back is Thompson's "For Your Use Only" stamp and handwritten notes about "pitching ace" Johnson and the Senators being "winners of the pennant for the 1st time." Remarkably, photo is pristine and NRMT.
