Fabulous albument card print, circa early 1870s, depicts the Yale baseball team in early photograph of collegiate ballplayers -- and sparks the old question of whether the first college baseball game was played by Yale against Wesleyan in 1865 or Amherst vs. Williams in 1859. In their ankle-length pants, two-toned shoes and, for five of them, dorky hats, the Yalies look somewhat surly, and two grip thick bats, perhaps thinking about dealing with whoever dressed them. The sepia-toned image is EX-MT, barely touched by time.
