The trial of John Wilkes Booth's conspirators, in the assassination of President Lincoln, was held before a 9-man military commission. The commission was named by President Andrew Johnson, and presided over by General David Hunter, a close Lincoln friend. The trial commenced on May 10th, and ended on June 30, 1865, with convictions of all eight defendants (of which, four were put to death). This very rare, unused, 3 x 5" pass to the trial, with Hunter's near flawless signature in bold black ink, reads "Military Commission." Crad is EX-MT. This lot includes an original 2.5x4" CdV of General Hunter in EX condition, and a history of the trial and bio of Hunter on parchment-style paper.
