Talk about Goldfingers. The 5 of them stitched together to form the gilded first baseman's mitt that dominates this 1958 Gold Glove Award presented to Gil Hodges surely represent "the man with a Midas touch" around the bag. The soft-spoken but frighteningly powerful Hodges won 3 of these babies, the 1st two while in Brooklyn before copping this bauble after the Dodgers' move to L.A.. The words "National League All Star Fielding Team" are engraved into the pocket of the Rawlings mitt, which fits onto the gold arch the front of which serves as a plaque engraved with “1958 Rawlings Gold Glove Award 1B - Gil Hodges - Los Angeles Dodgers - The Sporting News National League All Star Fielding Team.” Gold painted ball to the right has been re-gilded. Otherwise 100% original. Glove and ball mounted on gorgeous maplewood block 11 x 15" long tapered to 7 x 11" at the top. We'd love to see this original “Boy of Summer” and subsequent Miracle Met manager finally enshrined at Cooperstown. Piece was originally obtained from the Hodges family.
