Although "Silent Cal's" political genius was his talent for effectively doing nothing, the 30th President (1923-29) was a man of high integrity, and when time came for a 2nd term, he intoned, "I shall not run." Such bedrock principles were honed when Coolidge was Massachusetts governor from 1919-1920, when he wrote Have Faith in Massachusetts, a collection of his speeches. He signed this copy inside the cover in black fountain pen (grade 9/10) in 1920, shortly before he ran for president but settled for being Warren Harding's running mate. He was thrust into office when Harding died in August of 1923. With the Mint book is a draft of a nominating speech for Coolidge at the 1920 GOP convention, evidently written by Coolidge himself.
