A sensational 19th century Dana baseball photo, this cabinet card of Pittsburgh Pirates hurler, Elmer Smith is one of his few surviving images in existence. The contrast and condition of the photo is outstanding, the details so crisp, that the pores and wrinkles on his face are visible. He is wearing a Pittsburgh Pirates uniform and the cabinet is signed below in 8/10 black fountain ink. Front and back with "Dana" cartouche and "Carbonette 1895". Measures 4.25x6.5" to end of cardboard backing. Comes with Elmer Smith's personal 4.25x2.75" Lambert Bros. silver plate lifetime baseball pass with "Elmer E. Smith" engraved. Raised lettering includes the facsimile signatures of Harridge & Frick and reads, "The National American Major Leagues of Professional Baseball present this Lifetime Pass to Elmer E. Smith in appreciation of long and meritorious service."
