Abstract and dark, original watercolor from the "unknown Beatle" Stuart Sutcliffe’s small sketchbook used during his studies at the Liverpool College of Art in 1960. It was there that he was befriended by John Lennon who included him in his band as a bass player, to the consternation of Paul McCartney, as Sutcliffe knew little of music and nothing about playing the instrument. During the Beatles' early time spent in Hamburg, Germany, the brooding Sutcliffe died of a brain hemorrhage. Included here is a copy of the inside front color of a sketchbook, which reads, "SFU Sutcliffe/Liverpool College of Art /Hope St". Measures 4.5 x 7" and is in NRMT condition. This watercolor was originally the property of the Sutcliffe Estate until sold at Bonhams auction in July 2003. A key piece of the Beatles puzzle, revealing where some of Lennon's own personal agonies originated.
