The Stones' first gold record came after the classic song cleared the 1-million barrier in units sold in 1965. This stunning gold disk was awarded to to the most fascinating Stone, Brian Jones, who in the early years was the Stone who most typified their "anti-authority" image. The inscrutable, sheepdog-haired Jones was even more compelling than Mick Jagger, and his fascination with exotic instruments like the sitar gave lent heft and quirkiness to the Stones' blues rock. However, Jones descended into drugs and became a hindrance. After the "Let It Bleed" album in early 1969, he was fired, and on July 3, 1969 was found dead in the swimming pool at his home in Cotchford Farm, England at age 27 -- one of rock's greatest unexplained mysteries. The "Satisfaction" gold record is encased under glass in a wood-bordered frame sized to 13 x 17" and displayed against a white matte background above the RIAA plaque. The back exhibits the original sticker. Frame is EX-NRMT with a few incidental nicks. The display items are pristine.
