An historic trophy and plaque celebrating Aaron's moment in the sun has a very intriguing history. The impressive steel sculpture bearing the MLB logo along with the engraving, “Baseball’s Most Memorable Moment, National League”, sits upon a solid marble podium. It was awarded to the all-time home run king by the editors of Baseball Magazine, but for some unexplained reason he declined to accept it, and instead gifted the award and plaque to collector Barry Halper. The handsome 13.5 x 16.5” plaque is signed and inscribed by Aaron, “To Barry, Best Wishes Hank Aaron." It is accompanied by an important letter addressed to Mr. Halper stating, "Since Hank Aaron decided it was in his best interest not to accept [the award] for 'Greatest Moment of the Decade,' I can't think of a better place for [it] than in your impressive collection. Therefore, I would like you to have the plaque that was to be presented to Aaron at our awards press conference on Jan. 28, 1980." It then remained on display with the Barry Halper collection until it was sold. Trophy stands nearly 12” tall and still has the original Barry Halper sale tag and sticker attached.
