Some of these hard-bitten guys in this 1907 team photo of the New York Highlanders (before they were called the Yankees) look like refugees from a chain-gang, including a young Branch Rickey, middle second row. Rickey, who refused to play on Sundays, only lasted one season with the team as a catcher before moving on to his illustrious front office career.
