Eleven fantastic negatives of what was at the time the most dramatic finish in World Series history. With two outs in the ninth inning of Game 4 of the 1947 World Series at Ebbets Field, Cookie Lavagetto smashes a double off of the right field wall to break up the no-hitter and to win the game for the Dodgers. There are some amazing pieces here: the key piece of Lavagetto at the plate after getting the big hit (5x7”), Lavagetto hoisted ion his teammates shoulders in the locker room, Hugh Casey congratulating him, Dan Bankhead among the congratulants (4x5”), the on-the-field melee after the hit (marvelous detail in a huge 5x7”), and a wonderful complete collection of five 4x5” negs that went into making a New York Daily News two page spread (the original two-page article is included. Also, a definitive wire photo negative composite of “the hit” with a white dotted line showing the orbit of the ball (3x5”).
