Luscious period piece combines the adjoining worlds of baseball and tobacco. Resplendent graphics enrich imagery of the “League Champions” the 1888 New York Giants with the key at the bottom. The image is by Joseph Hall (taken from his photograph) with his cartouche at the bottom. This killer club boasts such 19th century legends as Tim Keefe, John Ward, Mickey Welch, Jim Mutrie (Manager), Buck Ewing (Captain), Roger Connor and James O’Rourke. Whew, what a line-up. It’s like a 19th century baseball who’s who. From a small find of these from a few decades ago, this is one of the finer specimens. There is a brown stain at top left corner (may be able to be bleached), and the back has writing on it. Otherwise NRMT. 7x4.5” and lovely.
