Awesome work by the great Norm Saunders this was one of the sumptuous paintings that were not used for the many Batman series that Topps did in the mid-1960s. Spurred on by the Batman craze created by the campy 1966 television show, the Batman cards are among the most important and popular non-sports issues ever to hit the presses. In stunning detail and miraculous colors, this gouache-on-cardboard painting is 4.75x3.25” and Gotham’s hero is armed with a mace while attacking a knight on horseback at a medieval jousting competition. One of the signature works of Norm Saunders, the man whose work paced set the standard for card art with his work on such landmark sets as Mars Attacks and Civil War News. Colors are crisp and striking, condition is EX-MT overall.
