Since its publication in 1888, "Casey at the Bat " has become a part of American folklore, a literary classic that has been reprinted and retold to countless generations of sports fans. Willard Mullin is arguably the greatest sports artist America has ever produced. Therefore, Mullin's rendition of "Casey", offered here, represents the perfect marriage of artist and subject matter. In the Fabulous 50's, Mullin was commissioned by a major retailer to produce this series of drawings for a set of cocktail glasses. America's "greatest generation" of returning veterans built highways, created technologies and enjoyed their " highballs"! The lot consists of 13 individual line drawings, each measuring approximately 9" x 12". Simply but brilliantly executed, they tell Casey's tragically heroic tale. The text to the poem is also in Mullin's hand, completing this true sports treasure. Also included are the photographic positives and negatives created in the production process. It all miraculously has survived a half century in Near Mint condition.
